Workshop Requirements

Before you arrive:

  1. Create an account on Derivative’s website and use this account to login to TouchDesigner and create a Free Non-Commercial License when you first open TouchDesigner: https://derivative.ca

  2. Download the latest stable version of Derivative’s TouchDesigner: https://derivative.ca/download

  3. Download the pre-built project file at the link below: https://iihq.tv/ocadu2026

  4. Open up the workshop’s project file, which will open looking at a MediaPipe component. Make sure to open up this file once before you arrive. When you initially load it it will ask for permissions that you must grant it so it can run the MediaPipe server in the background. This may download some additional MediaPipe configuration files. It will also say “Loading…” for a short amount of time while it setups up the server and then you should see your camera feed or a black box when it’s finished.

What To Bring:

  1. Your laptop (PC or macOS) with TouchDesigner 2025.32280 already installed.

  2. Your laptop charger to ensure your system isn’t throttling itself because of lack of power (very common!!).

  3. A 3-button mouse is always preferred when working with TouchDesigner. At very minimum, bring an external 2-button mouse. Your trackpad will not suffice for this workshop.

  4. A pair of headphones is recommended to help you work on audio-reactive content without disturbing your neighbours.

  5. Feel free to bring external devices you’d like to experiment with such as MIDI controllers, USB webcams, USB microphones, or similar. We can do our best to help you get those connected with TouchDesigner! A built-in webcam or USB webcam will be required for the hand tracking example.

  6. A collaborative and fun attitude to work with your peers on experiments and ideas 🙂
