Festivals can be a great place to catch up on the latest technology, see incredible artworks, installations, and performances, learn cool new skills and techniques, and network with people in the industry. There are a number of annual festivals focused on new media, art and technology that are well worth making the visit to. Although a number of festivals have already concluded their 2024 edition, there are still plenty to go see before the end of the year. New Media Festivals for Immersive Artists

OFFF is a popular festival of digital art and design, attended by many artists and developers in the interactive and immersive community. In the 24 years since the first edition was held in Barcelona the festival has grown in scale and reputation, having now been held in over 40 cities. There are a number of upcoming editions of the OFFF festival, starting with OFFF MX in Mexico City in August, followed by OFFF Sevilla in November, OFFF Barcelona in May of 2025, and OFFF Montreal expected in 2025.

The Ars Electronica Festival, held in Linz, Austria since 1979, is one of the largest and most prestigious new media festivals. Since the beginning, the festival has focused on the latest developments in technology, visions of the future, and their impact on daily life. The latest edition of the festival will be focused on the title “HOPE – who will turn the tide” and be held in September of this year.

The MUTEK festival is well known for showcasing cutting edge electronic music and digital art. It began as a Montréal-based festival in 2000 and has since grown to encompass a larger number of events, which are now held in Montréal, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Dubai, Mexico, Santiago and Tokyo. This year, MUTEK Montréal and MUTEK Mexico are celebrating 25 and 20 years respectively with unique Anniversary editions.
